HP
I finally weighed up all the options, went through the calculations, did some window shopping, but finally chose a mini-laptop. It's the HP Pavilion dm1. No doubt it'll be obsolete within a few months, but hey, that's the way of the computer world.
I've only had it a few days, but so far pretty happy. It has a reasonable spec: 3GB ram, 230GB hard drive, and a dual-core CPU - which isn't mega-fast, clocking in at 1.2Ghz, but I can run Eclipse without too much trouble at the moment. I think a dual-core really helps when running a number of applications simultaneously.
Trackpad Pain
The one thing I'm really having to get used to is the trackpad. It's a pretty standard device, but on my main laptop, I've always connected a mouse and used that instead. But a mouse just isn't going to work whilst on the train. It's just something I'm going to have to learn to love, and although I'm a big fan of keyboard shortcuts, I think I'll start learning a few more.
Git Again
I'm almost done with my initial setup. After the usual few Windows Update download / install / reboot cycles, I installed a few key apps such as the aforementioned Eclipse - Helios - and the latest JDK of course. The last piece is to get Git installed and then I can get going on the Poker kata - at last! I'm going to try getting TortoiseGit working as well this time.
Almost ready, almost.
